Biomat is a sludge like substance that forms from the breakdown of fecal matter, toilet paper, and food. This sludge like layer  usually takes many years to build up. Having your septic tank pumper every 2 years for an average family of 4 is recommended. The size of the family may depend how often you should get it pumped out.
